Versatile Maniwaki, Canada will be heated with Trebio wood pellets

The Hauts-Bois de L’Outaouais School (CSHBO) achieved two important objectives by installing a new boiler to heat the High-Gatineau School. Firstly, they have reduced heating costs and secondly, they are supporting a local company, namely Trebio Inc, a producer of wood pellets.

Installed this month, the new Biomass boiler replaces an old Oil boiler which was not only more expensive to run, but also more polluting to the atmosphere

The 1.3 million dollar project received a subsidy of 500,000 dollars from the ministry for the Natural resources of Quebec and financial help of 400000 dollars from the Ministry of Education.

According to the deputy of Gatineau, Stéphanie Vallée, heating with the wood pellets is much less polluting than the heating with fuel oil. “We calculated an annual reduction of 682 tonnes of carbon emissions through the adoption of this technology. Moreover, ashes produced by the combustion of wood can be re-used in agriculture”

Stéphanie went on to say “By specifying this change, we have reduced our emissions by the equivalent of taking 200 vehicles off the roads each year”

By granting the wood pellet supply contract to local Company Trebio, the conversion to wood pellets will also contribute to the economic revival in the Pontiac area. The region has been seriously affected by the crisis in the forest products sector for the last six years. The Trebio company is located in the grounds of the old Smurfit-Stone paper mill in Litchfield, Portage-du-Fort

Trebio wood pellets bound for Holland in bulk

During October last year, Trebio loaded their first shipment of bulk pellets bound for Europe.

Trebio pellets were shipped to our bulk facility at the Port of Trois Rivieres on the St Lawrence Seaway during the first months of production in the summer of 2011. Here they were loaded into the hold a bulk vessel over a long day.

A total of 5000 tonnes of pellets were loaded. Test were carried out during the day to determine the calorific value of the load at point of shipment. Once in Holland, the pellets will be used in the production of low carbon electricity.

If you are interested in bulk shipments of Trebio woodpellets, please send us an email and we will get in contact with you.

Trebio Quality Test Report

We are asked many times about the quality and content of our pellets. Our response is that we manufacture our pellets to the strict ENPlus A1 certification scheme. But what does this really mean?.

The ENPlus A1 certification requires us to get third party laboratory confirmation of the parameters of our pellets, generally these are:-
Moisture is below 10%
Ash content is below 0.7%
Heat content is a minimum of 4800 kwhrs per tonne

Plus a host of tests to control the elements released during the combustion process of our pellets. All of these tests are carried out to European Standards laid down by the European Pellet Council. To keep our ENPlus certification, we have to undergo regular monitoring of our production, the results of a recent test carried out independently by the test house SGS in Canada can be seen by clicking on the image below.

TREBIO – leading the field in sustainable biomass

TREBIO are pleased to announce that they have been certified independently by SAI Global for adherence to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative for our fibre sourcing. CEO Louis Campeau speaking from the mill at Portage Du Fort said “Our fibre sourcing Manager Mr Marcel Belair has put a a great deal of work in ensuring Trebio meets the demands of the SFI programme today and into the future”.

Campeau went on to say “…..this certification confirms that our pellets are being made from sustainable and responsibly sourced fibre. Things are going from strength to strength at the Trebio mill with the first ENPlus A1 certification last month and now the SFI certification. We are forging ahead as the leading quality pellet producer on both sides of the Atlantic”.

Marcel Belair, the man responsible for sourcing the fibre used in manufacturing Trebio pellets, said”……..I have worked for many years with the Forests of the Pontiac region, we respect the Forests, it provides a good source of material to make consistently good wood pellets”.

Belair has been involved in the Forests of Quebec for most of his life, he understands the needs of the Forest to be replenished and the delicate balance of wildlife and fauna. “…….we replace everything we cut, this is how we keep the forests providing us with a constant resource without depletion. Most of what was needed for the SFI certification is being done daily anyhow, we just had to prove it to our auditors”.

TREBIO, a leader in quality wood pellets, achieves the ENPlusA1 standard

TREBIO are pleased to announce that we are the first wood pellet mill in Canada and also the first outside of Europe to get the prestigious ENPlus certification confirmed as certification number CAN001.

TREBIO CEO Mr Louis Campeau said “….we are very pleased to achieve this accolade from the European Pellet Council. After a tough year bringing the Mill into life and on budget this adds further to the TREBIO focus of quality, reliability and being customer centric in the wood pellet industry”.

The demand for ENPlus pellets in Europe is steadily growing and the need to not only manufacture good pellets but to make sure that they are delivered to the customers doorstep in the very best condition, is paramount to get the very best from your Biomass Boiler or Stove.

Mr Campeau went on to say “…..our wood pellets are manufactured from fibre straight out of the forest, using sources strictly regulated by the tough Canadian Forest Management Systems. In this way, we make wood pellets from the right mix of species to create great wood pellets every time.”

Mr Peter Rechberger, General Manager of the European Pellet Council said “….congratulations to TREBIO on your new ENPlus certification, the EPC is very proud that TREBIO will become the first overseas ENPlus pellet producer”.

TREBIO receives a good response at EBEC Show, Stoneleigh, UK

The recent EBEC show at the Royal Showground at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, UK saw record attendance. In it’s fifth year the two day event saw another increase in visitors and attendees to the adjoining conference. Unfortunately Peter Bonsall could not keep his speaking engagement at the show due to having to meet with a client outside of the event.

TREBIO displayed a Rika pellet stove outside and had an internal stand showing off the new TREBIO wood pellet 8Kgs bagged pellets. The hiccup in the RHI from the end of September was the major talking point at the stand but over the two days TREBIO saw hundreds of potential clients at their stand. Mr Louis Campeau, TREBIO’s CEO was in Birmingham on his way back to Canada from visiting the Pellets industry Trade Fair in Stuttgart, Germany. Mr Campeau said about the EBEC event “…..it’s good to get to talk about our wood pellets with end users, especially the new Trebio wood pellet small bag of 8kgs, the design seems to meet the needs of the market.”.

TREBIO wishes to thank all of the people that came along to the stand and also extends a warm thank you to everyone at Biofuels Media who organised the event.
